What is a Consultation?
Not everyone knows what Herbalism is, or why it might make sense as a next step. Herbal consultations can help us figure out the best herbs or herbal formulas, salves, teas, syrups, or other products that best suit what you need. We will also look at nutrition, lifestyle, and overall wellness.
When we first sit down together, we will discuss your medical history, symptoms, and what you’d like to work on. We will collaborate to come up with strategies like herbal formulas, nutritional adjustments, and lifestyle changes to meet these goals. The goals we establish should be realistic, and sustainable. Herbalism works best if used consistently, and with longevity. The follow up sessions are also very important; herbs are not one size fits all. For every struggle, ailment, or imbalance, there are many possible herbs that could be helpful. Based on a balanced and nuanced system of energetics and botanical constituents, I can match plants to people. What works for some people doesn’t work for others, and we can adjust formulas and regimens as many times as necessary.
Several follow up sessions over a few months is ideal, depending on what is going on. If you are looking for support after having the flu, we might only need one follow up session. If we are working on rebuilding gut flora after a childhood of heavy antibiotic use, or working on depression and anxiety, or working through trauma, it is recommended to have 2 follow up sessions per month.
Every herb as well as every human being exist on a spectrum. Certain spectrums like hot to cold, dry to moist, and tense to lax are sort of the skeletal framework when talking about herbs. Every part of our body is connected to every other part, we are a beautiful ecosystem of anarchic harmony. Herbalism is not about treating symptoms, but rooting out the underlying cause, and working to shift that imbalance to a place of harmony.
